Passion for change, passion to become better, passion to be the best version of myself and that’s why I listened to Mel Robbins 5 Second Rule. I listened to the book once and now I’m listening to it again so I can ‘master’ the rule. We all know what we ‘have’ to do, we all know that it’s important to change if we want to grow and evolve. The 5 second rule is all about actions. It’s how we can implement the things we want to do in our life.
The rule is simple; once we have an intuition that we have to do something we need to start counting; 5,4,3,2,1 and just do it. It’s a brand hack where you don’t start justifying your actions and think of different excuses. Every day, I create hundreds of excuses because I’ve created different ‘fake’ stories in my brain. We all do it. We sell ourselves a story about something that we don’t want to do or about something we want to do. The five second rule helps me do things that I don’t want to do, things that I procrastinate and things that I’m scared off. Every day when I don’t want to do the social freedom exercises because ego and emotions get in the way, I say to myself 5,4,3,2,1, go, and then I do them. Last week, I was speaking to a close friend of mine and I made a decision to go skydiving for the first time in my life. Of course emotions got in the way, fear got in the way; 5,4,3,2,1 and I called them.
Last week, I was scared to tell a client about an opinion I had; 5,4,3,2,1, and I told him.
Mel explains that our emotions are our worst nightmare. She was scared of flying on commercial airplanes, so she implemented the rule and now I watch her Instagram Stories on the plane. She talks about how our brain is wired and how this simple hack can literally change our life. Small changes every day lead up to massive changes.
I don’t feel like reading. I don’t feel like going the gym. I don’t feel like calling that client. I don’t feel like waking up. I don’t feel like changing –feel like it. The truth is that we will never feel like doing things we don’t want to do and the secret to anything in life is doing the things that we don’t feel like and going beyond our own expectations.
This book is an amazing bridge to learning how to hack our brain and do the things we truly want, and do things that we are scared of, move out of our comfort zone and live life with passion.
